PNW - Pacific Northwest

Redwood National Forest. Sequoia trees out in Yosemite are another variety of redwood, those are girthy. The redwoods in Northern California, coastal redwoods are fucking tall! There’s one that was topped by the wind at 290’ up. The trunk of the tree is still 6’ wide up that high. Who knows how tall it was.. the trees don’t have tap roots. Essentially they all hold hands with shallow fibrous root systems. They’re kinda fire resistant in that their bark is super thick and airy. Lots of burned out trees (hollowed out by flames at the base) but still alive over 100’ in the air. Some big ol trees! 1500 years old in some cases.

And….. more redwoods.. The fallen tree shows the root systems pretty well. Very shallow. That stump is about 16’ high. The piece that looks like a ramp is about 30” wide. The natives would find pieces of bark about like that and use them to make homes/shelters. They’re all over (piece’s/planks of bark) they trees kinda explode when they fall over.

The tree with the vagina on it is the burned out one. It’s still alive 100’ + in the air. The experience was incredible. We cruised along the Smith River. The night we left, NorCal had a good sized earth quake. Crescent City was hit by a tsunami on 1964 caused by a quake. Essentially wiping out the town. They also had a minor one in 2011 when the Fukushima shit went down. Our tour guide for the redwoods was born and raised in Crescent city and gave us a good history lesson. We toured the redwoods in a ford econo van with a glass roof and the “C” pillar cut out. It was pretty damn cool. This last pic is the blood sucking demon I married and myself..

Fuck, I look homeless..

I expected you to look more Mexican with all that work you do.

Those pics are outstanding. Never thought I wanted to visit out that way but that about settled it.

If you didn't get any touchy sucky out there on the beaches or wilderness you need to go back and try again

Absolutely beautiful!!! I’m tired just reading about all the hiking. Marine flashbacks. The type of vacation to remember. Also the type where you need a week to rest when you get back! 😆
Did you guys carry Bear spray or anything?

Thanks for sharing!
